Friendly Neighborhood Coffee Shops
I’ve always found that one of the best ways to acclimate myself to a new city is to head to the local coffee shop. There, I always find a great mix of people from the surrounding area, fresh coffee, and a real sense of what it’s like to be a local resident in that city.
Richmond is no exception to this coffee rule.
Throughout all the different Richmond neighborhoods, you can find a coffee shop on just about any corner or side street. It’s as though each neighborhood comes with their own special set of coffee shops for their residents. The museum district has Black Hand, Carytown has Sugar & Twine, The Fan has Lamplighter and The Lab by Alchemy Coffee. Then, if you head downtown, Shockoe Bottom has Shockoe Espresso and Urban Farm House, and Church Hill has Captain Buzzy’s, Sub Rosa, and Whisk. Each coffee shop has a different vibe, and their own unique style of beautiful, dark, rich coffee.
Heading into any of these coffee shops will always give me a feeling of being home in Richmond. It gives me a glimpse of how each burrow of RVA is so unique compared to the others, but always offering the great qualities of Richmond that I have come to love so much.
