I’ve often regarded the smartphone as one of the best ways to get work done. And it is. It’s also THE most powerful tool of procrastination instantly available to you. It’s comfortable because it “feels” like you may be doing something. It looks like you are doing something. It comes with a certain sense of prestige just holding it in your hand and looking like you are doing something.
The problem is stopping. There’s a reason Blackberry’s are often referred to as “Crackberrys”. You get hooked. You become addicted to checking your email, sending a tweet every time anything happens, and updating your Facebook status 20 times a day–because you can. Instant gratification from these little acts appeal to the most primal instincts we have, thus the addiction.
If you want to be more productive, maybe it would be wise to try NOT using your smart phone nearly as often and instead get REAL work done.
