Annual Festivals You Won’t Want to Miss
Richmond comes alive during the summer months. You’ll see kayakers on the James, mountain bikers tackling the Buttermilk Trail, and runners training for the Richmond Marathon. And RVA is no slouch when it comes to festivals and events that get you outside.
Broad Appetit is where locals and tourists meet for some of the best food in RVA. At only three bucks a plate, you can sample more than fifty local restaurants’ culinary masterpieces. Oh, and did I mention there are a boatload of Virginia wines (which are actually really good!) and local craft beers to wash down all of that food? Yep. This event is June every year and is a great way to experience all of the amazing food Richmond has to offer.
I’d be remiss not to mention the epic Carytown Watermelon Festival, held every August in the boutique and eclectic Carytown shopping district. It’s hot out, but the watermelons are ripe, and the misting tents are in full effect. Over 100,000 people turn out for this annual event, making it one of the largest festivals in RVA. There are tons of street vendors and bands on stage at every block. Bring your kids, dogs, and some comfortable shoes for this all-day party.
