Thought I would share a post I wrote over at my RichmondWiki.org blog about adding the nofollow attribute to the Content Actions links in MediaWiki (edit pages, history, discussion, etc). When combined with a properly formatted robots.txt file, the nofollow attribute can preserve the maximum amount of PageRank (link ju ju, equity, whatever you want to call it) on your MediaWiki article pages. It also works on the Personal links (login, preferences, user page, etc).
It involves some basic PHP programming so it’s not for amateurs, but it’s a legitimate SEO tactic that will help your articles rank higher in search engines. Enjoy!
P.S. I plan to post more MediaWiki SEO articles over there, so subscribe to the RSS feed if you like what you see.
