Explore One of the Many Parks in the City
In the years that I’ve lived in Richmond, the parks in and around the city have become an important part of what makes this town feel like home to me. I can explore the riverbank as part of the James River Park System, see the view that gave the city its name at Libby Hill Park, or wander a Japanese garden in Maymont, all within a few miles of each other. On a smaller scale, The Fan offers a number of pocket parks—miniature green spaces tucked among the neighborhood’s historic homes.
Whether I have a free hour after work or an entire Saturday afternoon, the accessibility of Richmond parks lets me ditch my car and be in nature in minutes. Even mid-week lunches can include a walk to Brown’s Island with coworkers to refresh our minds and set us up for a happy afternoon.
The parks of Richmond bring balance to my life: I enjoy all the benefits of living in a city without sacrificing proximity to nature that I need and love.
