Outstanding JMU Digital Marketing Student Scholarship Winner Announced

Apr 13, 2017

Richmond, Va. – (April 13, 2017) Workshop Digital, a Richmond-based leader in digital marketing services, is pleased to announce the winner of its 2017 Outstanding JMU Digital Marketing Student Scholarship. Jordan Kimball, a senior at James Madison University, was presented the scholarship at the Workshop Digital Richmond office earlier today. In its fourth year, the $1,000 scholarship aims to encourage JMU students to pursue a career in online marketing.

“Once again, we received a competitive pool of applicants,” said Brian Forrester, co-founder of Workshop Digital. “Jordan stood out to our team because she went above and beyond in her application, clearly expressing her knowledge and passion for digital marketing. We look for applicants who are both knowledgeable and well-rounded, and Jordan’s passion to grow and learn in this industry went well beyond the baseline in her responses.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in JMU Professor Theresa Clarke’s Internet Marketing Practicum course. Students enrolled in this course emerge at the end of the semester with a better sense of effective online marketing strategies and a firm understanding of search engine optimization and search engine marketing techniques— a course that many programs around the United States still lack.

“I love that digital marketing ties traditional areas of marketing together, and that it has great growth potential,” said Kimball. “It excites me to potentially be entering a field where I know there is still so much to be discovered. I am so honored to be this year’s recipient!”

The marketing course at JMU aims to provide students with hands on experience in online marketing campaigns through the global Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC) each spring. Through Google AdWords, students gain hands-on experience with paid search and learn to navigate the various principles used to effectively maximize online marketing campaigns—all for an actual client. JMU has participated, been recognized nationally and globally, and has been named one of the winners of the Google Online Marketing Challenge numerous times.

Workshop Digital selected JMU as the recipient of this scholarship four years ago because at that time, it was the only university in the state of Virginia that offered a fully developed online marketing course and was involved in the GOMC. Because of this, Workshop Digital saw an opportunity to invest in students at JMU through mentorship and the scholarship—with the hope that more students will pick a future career in digital marketing.
